1998 toyota 4runner limited, I am looking to buy this model/make used car. It doesnt have smog certificate or registration, and I have to go with the guy to buy back the title from the credit union. I told him I need him to get registration and smog and I will work with him about the title. I need to know what the registration paperwork and smog paperwork looks like.

The paperwork you will be needed from the credit union is this Toyota 4Runner's title or pink slip. Once you have that you and the seller can sign a bill of sale indicating the purchase price and vehicle mileage. You then need to obtain insurance and get a smog check. The seller is responsible for the smog check so make sure you do not pay any money for the vehicle until you are sure it is passing the smog test. Once you have the title, the bill of sale, insurance, and a passing smog certificate, you may visit a local DMV branch and they will transfer the title into your name. posted by SmogTips Support
