2002 Mitsubishi Diamante ES bought in 2009 needs smog check again. Why?

MY CAR IS A 2002 MITSUBISHI DIAMANTE ES. I BOUGHT IT IN 02/2009 AND I HAD TO GET IT SMOGED BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET MY TAGS UP TO DATE. SO WHY DO I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN?

The smog check required to transfer title during a vehicle's purchase is separate from the smog inspection required during a vehicle's registration renewal purpose. And so... You had to smog check your 2002 Mitsubishi Diamante once when you bought it, and now again during its biennial registration renewal period. posted by SmogTips Support
