1997 Saturn SL passed 25mph smog test but failed 15mph, why?
The 15 mph test fail but the 25 mph pass. What can cause that. The car run's great. Answer:
During the smog test the Dynamometer places a predetermined load on your
Saturn's engine. At 15mph this load is twice as high as during the 25mph
test. The additional load puts your vehicle under higher stress and forces
it to emit real world condition emissions. This is why we see more vehicles
failing the 15 mph section, rather then the 25 mph section.
Your Saturn has an emissions failure which needs to be diagnosed by a smog
check repair station.
