2000 Nissan Maxima. Check Engine Light is ON. Failed Smog Check.
I took my car to get a smog test but it failed because of check engine light($60). Then took the car to dealer they replaced coils($1500) and tried again but then said we needed new catalytic converter. Was told it would be $1800 just to order. Took to another mechanic and was told I need to go to smog test only center and that he could not fix it because of this. He said he didn't think it needed a new converter that he looked at the numbers and thought it was the fuel filter but the filter was in the fuel pump so I would have to replace the fuel pump. I can't afford much more. The car is not worth what is being put into it. What is the inpection place going to do for me and when is the cost to much? Answer:
