I have a 1988 Toyota pickup truck. Do I need a smog check to register it?
I was wondering if I needed my Toyota truck smog tested to get it registered because I heard that if your vehicle is a certain age you don't need a smog check anymore. Is there any truth to that? Also, someone somehow removed the muffler and I was wondering if this could cause my Toyota to fail the emissions test. Answer:
Exempt from smog check requirements are any motor vehicle manufactured prior
to the 1976 model-year. All vehicles 1976 and newer vehicles will be tested
according to California state emission law. Your 1988 Toyota Pickup does
need to be smog checked or smog inspected for California vehicle
registration.
