1996 Mercedes E320 - Trouble Code P1711

I have a code of p1711, manufacturer control transmission with check engine light on. All but 1 ready system is ok after 200 miles or so. Engine was replaced and car emits very low emissions. Question: Anyway to get smog certified since code is not engine related?
Answer:

Contrary to public belief, your MBZ E320's check engine light being illuminated anytime during the smog inspection is automatically a smog failure, whether engine or transmission related. Vehicle manufacturers have placed the Check Engine light inside the passenger compartment to inform the driver there has been or is an engine or transmission malfunction. Very often you may not notice this problem, but this is only because your engine's computer is operating under pre-programmed information rather then of real-time. In other words the problem still exists but your vehicle "learns to live with it".

Transmission related trouble codes do in fact cause smog check failures. More then often a defective transmission component will effect overall engine performance and emissions.

According to our Emission Application Guides Digital Trouble Code P1711 for your 1996 Mercedes Benz Model E320 indicates that the P1711 code is "Electrical Activation of Resonance Intake Manifold Switchover Valve". This fault is not transmission related, and needs to be diagnosed by an expert smog check repair center, or a Mercedes Benz dealer. There is a brittle air tube which leads to the Switchover Valve that may be broken or disconnected.

2nd QUESTION: Thank you for getting back to me. I may have had the code wrong; I believe it read "p17xx" It did say "Manufacturer Control Transmission"

Could it say transmission but in reality be something else?

2nd ANSWER: You know it all depends on what type of scan tool you are using to retrieve the trouble codes. Generic auto part store scan tools are not going to give you specifc enough information for you to diagnosis this trouble. Only the dealership, or an expert smog repair station (one that has the proper and expensive scan tools) will be able to pull the actual troublwe code. All information we have regarding P1711 indicate the Switchover Valve. In either case any trouble code which causes your Mercedez's check engine light to illuminate will cause it to fail the smog check.
