1999 Ford F359 7.3l Diesel. I need to get registered in CA. Do I have to have it smogged?
Do I need to have my diesel pickup smogged and if so, about how much will it cost. Answer:
Your Ford diesel truck will need a California smog check certificate in
order to get California vehicle registration. 1998 and newer diesel cars
and trucks which weigh under 14,500 GVW need a diesel smog check. The diesel
smog check does not include the emissions test portion of the smog test
which gasoline powered vehicles require. Diesel vehicles only need the
visual inspection of emission and smog components, a system check of the On
Board Diagnostics (OBD II) system, a visual smoke check for excessive black
smoke, and an EVAP Test.
The price of the diesel smog check is the same as a standard smog test. In
this specific case your smog inspection will cost slightly more then
standard since your vehicle is a pickup truck.
