Our Dodge minivan failed visual inspection due to a modified pcv hose, but passed functional and emissions test. Does this mean I have to take it to a test and repair center to get it fixed? Or is that only for emission failures?
or can I just get the correct hose for my Caravan and then take it back to the test only center? i don't have to go back to the same one do i?
Thank you! Answer:
Depending on the details of the PCV modification, you may or may not be able
to perform the repair yourself. If you see the modification and know you can
buy the new PCV part that has a problem, you might be able to make the
repair yourself and go back to ANY test only station for a retest. You might
want to consider going back to the same smog station, as most shops offer a
free or discounted retest.
If you are not comfortable making this repair to your Dodge Caravan
yourself, you have to take it to a Test & Repair smog check station for
repairs. California law only allows State Certified Smog Repair stations (or
the vehicle's owner) to conduct smog inspections and smog repairs on
vehicles being driven in California.
