1991 Chevrolet C 1500 Pickup - EVAP hose was cracked when smog technician clamped it.
I've been able to identify a damaged and leaking EVAP system hose that was clamped during a recent failed smog check. This vehicle passed a CA smog check 8 months ago. Will California reimburse vehicle owners for costs incurred for repairing damage to an EVAP system hose caused during the system test, and the resulting re-test fees? Answer:
The state of California will not reimburse you but you might ask the smog
station which performed the smog test to pay to get your Chevy pickup's EVAP
hose repaired. The question is, will the smog technician admit to cracking
the EVAP hose during the clamping process? The BAR instructs smog technician
to be extremely careful while clamping EVAP lines since often times the EVAP
lines on older model vehicles can be brittle. However there are times when
no matter how careful a smog technician is he/she can not avoid damaging an
EVAP hose. The option is either to refuse testing the vehicle, fail the
vehicle because the hoses are brittle and cracked, or try to get the vehicle
through the smog inspection by going ahead with the process. We recommend
contact the smog station. The state will not get involved unless the smog
