Car failed-no under hood emission label to say that an EGR N/A 2005 Ford Expedition
My hood was replaced and I have no label. Isn't there a way to verify that an EGR is exempt based on the make and model? The dealer said my engine (5.4L 3V SOHC) did not require an EGR and a label wasn't necessary. Smog station won't pass until I have a new label. I keep going between dealer and smog station. What can I tell the Smog station without taking car to a dealer? Shouldn't they know by the car engine? Answer:
The dealership is correct as far as not needing an emissions label to get
your Ford Expedition to pass. As far as the requirement of an EGR valve...
You are going to need to show documentation from the dealership indicating this vehicle was never equipped with an EGR valve. The smog station can use a emission application guide to find out whether your Ford was equipped with an EGR valve or not, but without the emissions label they can verify whether the Expedition is a California vehicle or Federal, and this is where the problem is. The smog station has to know whether this is a California truck or not. Unfortunately the only documentation that can tell the smog technician this is the emissions label... or a document from the dealership.
