Check Engine Light comes on during test - 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan

I had a Van Fail smog test. The tester wrote on the VIR that "MIL comes on and off during ASM". What could be the cause of that, what parts would have to be replaced? The Van Passed the Previous test 2 years ago with out problems. Failed Emissions Test: Gross Polluter.

Could be quite a few things. What you'll need to do is use a trouble code scan tool to retrieve the trouble code data from the emissions computer. The codes will indicate which portion of your Dodge Caravan's engine is having trouble. If we had to take a wild guess, we'd say probably a CamShaft Position Sensor... we could be wrong... but the intermediate fault of this component could cause gross polluter emissions and the check engine light to turn on and off during the test. posted by SmogTips Support
