In 1996 my father bought a Toyota Camry in Arkansas. This car was bought brand new from a dealer in Hot Springs, AR. He recently gave the car to my sister who lives in San Carlos, CA. It is time for the car to be registered in CA. Will the car need to be modified to pass the CA emission laws? Answer:
You won't need to add any emission components to your 1996 Toyota Camry. So long as no (emissions) modifications were made to this car it can pass the California smog check... assuming of course that its emissions fall below California emission cut scores.
