1994 Toyota Pickup odometer is not working.

My speedometer odometer stopped working. My mechanic can't get parts or rebuild it, and says I need them to smog check my car. What do i do? I need my truck.
Answer:

A broken speedometer and/or odometer will not cause your Toyota to fail the smog test, however if the entire dash board is not functioning (including the check engine light), this will cause a smog inspection failure. If in fact the check engine light is not functioning as well, you will need to have it repaired. If the parts are absolutely not available you may as for a "limited parts exemption" from the state smog check referee's office. You may contact the referee at (800) 622-7733.
