1995 Volvo 850. failed smog test. Are sensors in this model exempt?
Access ecm and retrieved one Digital Trouble Code (dtc) for efi 435 frt 02 sensor is slow to respond. I monitored the front 02 sensor at this time. The sensor does not respond. I erased the dtc and reset adative. Should the check engine light turn back on? Customer will need to replace frt 02 sensor. cost 900.00 estimate.
Will this cause the smog test to be failed, check engine light is no longer on.... Answer:
So long as the check engine light is not on, and the ecm is not throwing any trouble codes... and the vehicle produces passing emission results, it can pass the smog inspection. The smog machine's OBD II link does not look for O2 signals, it simply checks for trouble codes and emission monitors which must be set.

Slight correction to our first answer... since this vehicle is a 1995 model there will be no OBD II hookup. If the CEL is not on and the vehicle produces emissions below the state's cutscores, it will pass the smog test.
