Forum > Failed Smog Test > Question

Should CA state has changed the Maximum Allowable Emmission to be lower than before?

The Maximum Allowable Emission of NO(PPM) in Smog Check for two years ago were 15 mph: MAX 791 25 mph: MAX 730 This year, the Maximum Allowable Emission of NO(PPM) in Smog Check are changed to be 15 mph: MAX 554 25 mph: MAX 511 Due to the above changing, I am afraid that my car could not pass the smog test. Could you please advise what can I do for the new smog test standard? Thank you very much!
Answer:

Standards are getting tighter. We can suggest you look into the emission systems which control NOx, such as the EGR valve (if your vehicle is equipped), the fuel control system (which ensures proper air/fuel ratio; a lean fuel condition causes high NOx), and the Catalytic Converter (which reduces emissions across the board).
