Bought a 1979 Jeep C-J7 with AMC 360 motor from Indiana. Dont exactly know how to go about getting it smogged. I t has an Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor and manifold. I has headers and no smog pump. I dont know what year the motor is but I know the jeep didnt come stock with that motor in it. I see these hot rods all over the place at Goodguy shows and I see these Jeeps with conversion motors all the time. What are my options? I would have know problem changing the headers back to the stock exhaust manifolds but I dont know if that would be enough. Thanks Mel Answer:
You're going to want to make an appointment with the state smog check referee's office. Since your Jeep has had an engine change, they will need to conduct the smog check and issue you a "blue" emissions label, before the DMV will give you registration. The referee will be able to tell your Jeeps engine year, and also whether it needs new manifolds and a smog pump. Contact the referee at (866) 622-7733.
