2001 Nissan Pathfinder failed smog check. Check engine light is not on, yet car fails.

2001 Nissan Pathfinder replaced O2 sensor, check engine light off, can't pass repeated tests. I have driven hundreds of miles, including on the freeway. I replaced the O2 sensor after check engine light came on. I have been in twice for smog checks, but fail because not all of the data requirements (emission monitors) have been met. I have driven hundreds of miles, including on the freeway, the check engine light has stayed off, but am told that I need to keep driving it to trigger all possible conditions. Now my tags are now expired (I paid my fees, though).
Answer:

Getting the emission monitors to set can be tricky. We can only recommend first you obtain a temporary registration permit from the DMV, as to avoid expired registration tag citations, and second to continue driving in all sorts of driving conditions in order to get the required emission monitors to set. We recommend driving for at least 200 miles in a variety driving conditions; traffic, freeway, city, stop and go. You'll need to make at least one trip to a store where you park the vehicle for at least 1 hour and then restart it.
