I have a 1996 Honda accord. I'm trying to register the car under my name but it needs to get smog check. Problem is it has a transmission problem but will still drive if put on overdrive.
The car has some transmission issues and I'm trying to register it under my name. The car runs if put on overdrive (1), then overdrive (2) as if you were shifting gears manually. Will it pass smog even though it has these problems?
Answer:
The California Smog Check procedure requires the smog inspection (on an automatic transmission vehicle such as in the case of your Honda Accord) be conducted with the transmission in Drive (D) position only. The smog technician will not be allowed to shift in-between gears (overdrive, 1st, or 2nd) during the smog test. We recommend having your Honda Accord's transmission repaired prior to the smog check.
