2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD (truck) with Duramax Diesel engine
I purchased a 2008 Chevy 2500 truck with a "Duramax Diesel" engine. The truck has no exhaust system behind the "particular filter". The dealer is saying it is "legal" to sell me the truck that way. The truck weighs approx. 6500 lbs. It is used for personal use. I just need to know if it is legal for the dealer to sell me the truck that way. Thank you for your help. Answer:
The dealership will need to smog check this truck in order to register it in your name. If it passes the smog test then it has all the required smog check components. As far as we know there is no exhaust component past the particulate filter on this truck. The particulate filter sort of acts like a catalytic converter in this particular situation.
