1976 Triumph TR6 49 state emission legal - Can I register it in California?

I want to buy a classic 1976 Triuph TR6. I know I have to smog check it, but my concern is about buying it. Did the California 50 State / 49 State emission law exist in 1976? If it didn't is there a problem bringing it in? Or if the law did exist in 1976 will it be a problem to get it registered in California? I don't want to buy the car and get stuck not being to be able to register it here.
Answer:

We believe the distinction of 50 state / 49 state emissions legal began in the early 80's. However, you will not have a problem registering a 1976 out-of-state emission equipped vehicle in California so long as the vehicle has not had it's emission system(s) tampered with. So long as this Triumph has all the emission parts which the manufacturer originally equipped the car with, you'll be able to get a California smog check and assuming it passes the emission portion of the test, register it in California.
