What are the requirements for my Indiana registered 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to get a smog certification?

I only need a smog certification in order to get stickers for the Marine Corp base in 29 palms. What requirements will my Jeep have to meet? It is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 6 cylinder engine. My check engine light is on and I've been told that will be an automatic failure. It is registered in Indiana.
Answer:

This is true; the check engine light being on is an automatic emissions test failure. Our recommendation is you have a certified smog repair mechanic inspect your Jeep. Along with Check Engine light being on there are trouble codes stored in the emissions control computer which the smog technician will be able to retrieve and use to pin point the trouble your Jeep is having. As far as registering your Jeep in California... Once the check engine light problem is fixed and the Jeep's emissions results fall within California's emissions cut scores you'll be able to register your car here. A used vehicle which is imported to California CAN be registered here as long as it passes the smog check. No additional emissions parts are needed, only the emissions parts your Jeep was manufactured with.
