Can I get DMV temporary tags without a smog test?

I have a Toyota Corolla that I need to get Temporary Registration for. Do I need to get a smog check for my Corolla before the DMV will give me temp tags?
Answer:

You do not need to get a smog check in order to receive CA DMV Temporary Tags. Temp Registration tags are sold to consumers for many different reason. A few examples are when a vehicle requires a CHP inspection prior to completing the registration process, when vehicle needs a smog check, when a vehicle requires a Brake & Lamp Inspection. In all of these cases the DMV will give the vehicle owner (for a $50.00 fee) a temporary registration tag in order for the vehicle to be driven until the registration is complete.
