Emission Monitor Reset on a 2000 Dodge Stratus

How can my car pass the smog inspection emissions test but fail the smog check overall do to the fact that the computer needed to be reset after I did some repairs. The computer takes input from different sensors and adjusts air/fuel mix so if computer needs reset how can it pass the smog check?

It appears your Dodge failed the functional portion of the smog check for emission monitors which were not "ready". Your car's battery may have been disconnected during recent repairs, which erased the emission monitors. The emission monitors must be "set" in order to pass the smog test. The emission monitors, also referred to as "readiness flags", are internal self-tests which verify your car's emissions systems are functioning properly. We recommend driving for at least 200 miles over the course of a week or two, in a variety driving conditions; traffic, freeway, city, stop and go. Getting the emission monitors to set can be tricky. Continue driving with 1/4 to 3/4 tank of gas, and in all sorts of driving conditions in order to get the required emission monitors to set. posted by SmogTips Support
