1979 Ford F150 in Santa Barbara.

Are you required to get a smog check at a station in the county in which the vehicle is registered? Or, can I go to any one in the state. My truck is registered in Santa Barbara and I'd like to use a shop in Ventura county.
Answer:

Santa Barbara is considered a "basic" smog check county, as opposed to an "enhanced" smog check county. A smog station in an Enhanced smog program county can smog check a vehicle registered in a Basic smog check program but the reverse is not allowed. So to answer your question... you can have your Ford smog checked at any smog station in Ventura county because Ventura County is located in an Enhanced Smog Check Program Area.
