Porsche Boxster S difficulty finding a smog test center.

Can smog check stations refuse to test your car? I have been to a dozen places and it seems because it is not cost effective for them they simply refuse to take Porsche's. If no one will smog test it how do you get it smog checked?

I have a Porsche Boxster S convertible and due to difficulty getting to the engine the 12 places I have gone refused to do it. How can DMV legally require you to smog a vehicle but not require anyone to do it? Aren't smog stations legally being required to do this or simply picking and choosing which vehicles they will or won't test?

Answer:

California smog stations have a legal obligation to the State of California, depending on the county in which they operate, to provide smog inspections to all vehicles requiring emission testing.

You can advise the smog technician you are aware of this requirement, and demand a smog check, however we're not quite sure you'd want a disgruntled technician handling your vehicle.

We recommend you contact a SmogTips Certified smog station, advise them you found them through our website and that you've already contacted us regarding Porsche smog checks. They will be glad to help. If need be consider making an appointment with the smog station which satisfies both parties.
