1992 Chevy 1500 California emission equipment different from federal?

1992 Chevy 1500 4.3 V6 5sp - was there any ca. emission equip different from federal in 1992. Moving from another state, want to register in Ca.

I am moving to Ca. soon and want to register my 1992 Chev 1500 4.3l V6 5sp and want to know if it is likely to pass with just federal emissions. Did Ca. have different emission than fedearal for pick-ups in 1992? Also, if it passes inspection, will a new owner be able to register it with federal emission equipment if I later decide to sell it?

Answer:

There is a difference with California legal and Federal legal emission requirements. However if your 1992 Chevy 1500 is equipped with all the Federal required emission components (which is was originally equipped with) it can pass the California smog check and register with the CA DMV.

The rule is any USED vehicle which is equipped with the necessary Federal Emission Components is eligible for California registration as long as the vehicle's exhaust emissions fall within California's limits and the vehicle's emission system has not been tampered with. The installation of additional smog components is not required.
