2003 Ford Thunderbird Smog Machine RPM Pickup Coil No Signal

I have a problem getting the smog check for my 2003 Ford Thunderbird. After an hour or so, the technician comes out and tells me that he "can't get a reading on the RPM" either through the computer or using any other method. This has happened to me twice now. How can I find a place that can get this right?

This problem sometimes happen on vehicles with Electronic Ignition systems. We can only recommend you find a smog station with the latest emissions test equipment (smog machine) and an enhanced RPM pickup coil. Prior to visiting the smog station call and speak with the technician to ensure he/she is aware of the RPM signal troubles that some electronic ignition vehicles experience and that they are experienced in dealing with these matters. posted by SmogTips Support
