2004 Infiniti G35 Failed Smog Due to Check Engine Light

I have had my 2004 Infiniti G35 in the shop for well over a month trying to fix my Service Engine Soon light. When I did the initial smog test I passed the emissions portion with no problem but automatically failed due to the trouble codes P0011 and P0012. I have spent close to $3000 in shop charges attempting to fix this light, but it keeps coming back on despite the mechanic telling me that the car is running perfectly. We replaced timing solenoids, crankshaft and camshaft sensors, the entire ECU and just about everything that is related to these codes. At this point I need to pass the smog test as I have already paid the registration, but my old tags expire at the end of May. This is extremely frustrating especially because I pass the actual part that has to do with emissions. Is there any way to gain an exemption for the check engine light seeing that the emissions of my car are fine and that I have already tried repairing it with $3000 worth of repairs? Thank you.

Answer:

Sounds like you've definitely replaced the components which would trigger your Infiniti's Trouble Code P0011 and P0012 problems. At this point you would be eligible for a one-time two year smog check exemption however the State may require you go through the CAP Repair (Consumer Assistance Program) if you are eligible.

Call (800) 622-7733. You'll need to have your 2004 Infinity G35 inspected by a State Smog Check Referee's Office. If you meet the State low-income or cost waiver criteria, the Referee's Office may grant you the one time waiver.
