2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Passing Smog Test with Air Condition Stuck ON.

Quick question. I've had one of the knobs on my air conditioning in my Mitsubishi Lancer's dashboard snap off a couple of months ago. It is stuck in the "cold" setting, yet still appears to work ok. I need to bring my car in for a smog check, and am wondering if the lack of this knob will have me not be able to pass the smog check or not be able to have it performed? Thank you very much for your time.

Answer:

The smog inspection process requires your Mitsubishi Lancer's accessories be turned off during the smog check (this includes the A/C). I'm afraid you might have trouble getting a smog station to smog check your Mitsubishi with the air conditioning on. On a side note having your A/C on during the emissions test might increase emissions due to the additional load being placed on the engine by the A/C. Your best bet is to find a way to turn off the A/C before the test. If you can not fix the A/C knob, consider finding the A/C fuse/relay and disconnecting it. Refer to your vehicle's owners manual.
