1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass Passed All Emissions Test Except the OBD Test

My smog test only mechanic told me there's nothing wrong with my car's engine, but that the OBD system had been shut off sometime within the last year while I was giving a battery jump to another car. He recommended I drive my Oldsmobile Cutlass for some 200 miles, and it was going to be good to pass. I drove it for more than that, took it back and it still didn't pass. My home mechanic doesn't no what to do next. What can I do?

Answer:

Driving your Cutlass for over 200 miles should have completed the OBD Monitors to Ready status. At this point you'll need to have a smog check repair station conduct a diagnosis to figure out what is stopping the Emission Monitors to be complete or ready status. Emission monitors are internal self tests which your Oldsmobile Cutlass performs to ensure the emission systems are functioning properly.

Without a hands-on diagnosis there is no telling what is stopping the emission monitors from running and ultimately showing as "complete" or "ready".
