Chevy Half Ton Pickup Catalytic Converter Visual Inspection Failed Due to Not ARB Approved

NAT CA D280-76500. ARB Summary lists it has a catalytic converter for a Ford passenger car and no number stamp. It passed ASM emmissions test. Do I need to replace the CAT or is there a way to verify it has been on the pickup for a long time? I have bought it in 2005 and the converter was replaced before I got the pickup so I have no way to know when it was done.

Answer:

Aftermarket replacement catalytic converters are labeled with important information necessary to ensure that installations comply with California law. Aftermarket CATs produced and sold before January 1, 2009 should be labeled according to U.S. EPA requirements.

In this specific case, and if in fact no numbers exist on this CAT, we're afraid your only option is to replace your 1977 Ford Pickup's catalytic converter with a ARB approved (EO number stamped) catalytic converter.
