1996 Volkswagen Jetta needs smog check repairs I can not afford and worth more then the car.
I own a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta xlr. My Jetta failed smog check and received $500 dollar government assistance for smog check repairs, but the amount that my VW needs to be fixed and pass, exceeds the worth of my car. Someone told me about going to a Los Angeles smog referee and they can give me a 2 year extension to get it fixed or retire the car. Do you know of anything like this. Or another alternative? Answer:
The smog referee is exactly who you need. Call them at (800) 622-7733. Make
an appointment to take them your Volkswagen Jetta for an inspection. They
will inspect the repairs made with the $500 Consumer Assistance money and
upon ensuring your Volkswagen needs more repairs to pass, which you can not
afford, they will give you a one-time only smog check waiver. So... you
drive your VW for 2 more years and then go ahead and retire it to the state
for $1000.00.
