Secondary Air Injection Monitor Not Ready

I have a OBDII reader and all systems have completed except for the Air Injection Monitor, which is listed as incomplete. Do I need to wait for this monitor to complete (cycle) before getting a smog check? How do I speed up drive cycle process to get this complete?

Answer:

The current BAR Smog Check Procedure Guidelines state 2000 year model and newer vehicles are not allowed any incomplete monitors except the EVAP monitor. 1999 & older vehicles are allowed one incomplete monitor. So depending on the year of your vehicle, it may or may not pass the smog test with one incomplete monitor.

If your vehicle is 2000 or newer we still recommend however that you contact a smog check station to verify this information. As of the time of this post (August 2014) the State of California is undergoing a smog check procedure and policy change. Prior to this change 2000 and newer vehicles were allowed one incomplete monitor. 1999 & older vehicles were allowed 2 incomplete monitors. The new smog check program does not allow for any incomplete monitors on later model vehicles. Depending on the county you live in and the type of smog check system the smog station is using (DAD system or BAR-97 system) your vehicle might pass with one incomplete or Not-Ready emission monitor even if it is a 2000 model year or newer. Contact a local smog check station.
