Toyota Corolla Smog Test in Santa Barbara

I'm registering my Toyota Corolla I'm LA and I'm going to be spending some time up in Santa Barbara. If I get a smog check in Santa Barbara, will it be valid in Los Angeles?

The type of smog check you obtain is more important than the location where the smog check is obtained. You may get a smog check anywhere in the state as long as the type of smog check is one that is required for your Toyota Corolla. An older model Toyota Corolla more than likely will require a STAR smog inspection, which means in Santa Barbara, you'll need to find a STAR certified smog check station. Upon getting your smog test, it will be valid for vehicle registration purposes anywhere in the state. To find out which type of smog check your car requires, contact the DMV at (800 777-0133. If you'd like to not bother with calling the DMV, get a STAR smog inspection. A STAR smog check will suffice when ever a vehicle needs either a STAR smog inspection or regular smog check (which may be obtained at a smog test center which is not STAR certified). posted by SmogTips Support
