1984 Chevrolet El Camino has been identified as a Gross Polluter.

What if there are no funds available to buy back a car? Does a person turn it in but get nothing back? What options are available.
Answer:

You may want to consider applying for a smog check exemption. If your Chevy El Camino is eligible for the CAP Retirement Program then it should also be eligible for the CAP Repair Assistance Program. You can apply for repair assistance instead of the buy back program. The state will pay up to $500.00 towards getting you El Camino to pass the smog test. If after the $500.00 is spent your El Camino still fails the smog check (and you can not afford to pay towards any smog repairs yourself), the state's smog check referee's office can issue you a one time smog certificate waiver. Call the State Referee's Office at (800) 622-7733 for more information.
