1986 Toyota Pickup 22R EGR Valve Replacing

Unfortunately the State Emission EGR Valve for my Toyota pickup truck is discontinued and impossible to replace. However the Federal Emission EGR Valve is readily available and I could install it as the part fits my truck just fine. Would this be a problem?

Answer:

You'll need to use a California certified EGR valve. Using the federal version will cause a smog check failure. Furthermore, it appears the federal EGR valve has an additional exhaust outlet which leads to a pressure sensor. Using a Federal EGR valve would require plugging this outlet, therefore rendering the smog check result as "tampered". Simply using the Federal part alone is a smog check failure. We've found a California emissions certified EGR valve for your Toyota Pickup at RockAuto. You may also contact the State's Parts Locator for assistance as well.

The State's Part Locator helps motorists locate hard-to-find emissions parts that are needed to bring their vehicles into compliance with state law. If the parts are not available, the they may be able to issue you a "Limited Parts Exemption". In most cases the needed parts are found. You may contact the State Smog Check Parts locator by calling (800) 622-7733.
