Swapping Transfer Case on Toyota 4Runner

I am considering a transfer case swap on my 2001 Toyota. Will this affect the smog test? The Toyota in question is a 2001 Toyota 4 Runner, 4x4, with a V6, and an automatic transmission.

Answer:

Unless you are swapping with a transfer case built for the same make and model of your vehicle, it will cause a smog check failure. You will need to only use a transfer case built for your Toyota 4Runner. Same requirement applies to a vehicle's transmission.
