2005 Ford Focus from Mexico trying to register it in California
Ok I have a 2005 Ford Focus. The car is Mexican. The smog check referee office has told me that I need to upgrade the car so it fulfills California regulations. Everyone tells me that it is expensive but no one can tell me exactly HOW expensive... or what needs to be done to the car... or who can do it... I would really appreciate it if you told me what can i do. I just need to know if it is possible to register this car in CA or if i'm better off just selling it in Mexico. Answer:
You are better of selling your Ford Focus in Mexico. It will cost your
between $1000 to $2000 dollars to complete the upgrade to your Ford's engine
in order to make it California legal; depending on which components are
currently missing. Your Ford Focus needs to have an EVAP system, EGR valve,
California emissions programmed computer system, plus a California approved
Catalytic Converter. More then likely by the time your done making these
changes to your Ford you would have spent more time and money then the car
is worth. We recommend selling it in Mexico and buying another one in
California.
