Cost for Smog Check on 1993 Toyota Pickup?

How much for a smog check for a 1993 Toyota pickup truck? Few places I called were asking for some pretty high fees.
Answer:

It's going to cost a little bit more to smog test your pickup truck since it requires two additional tests which 2000 and newer vehicles do not require. The two added inspections required, and for which additional fees apply, are the EVAP system test and the ASM (tailpipe) test. You'll find 2000 and newer gasoline powered vehicles priced much less that the pre-2000 and pre-1997 vehicles. A 1999 and older gasoline powered vehicle is administered the BAR 97 ASM smog test where the vehicle is driven on a dynamometer and an exhaust sample analyzed during the driving phase, and a 1996 and older gasoline powered vehicle is administered the ASM test and an EVAP test which ensures there are no fuel vapors escaping from the vehicle's fuel evaporative system.

Both these tests come with added costs. Typically, $10-20 is added for the ASM test, and $5 to $10 is added for the EVAP, also known as LFEPT test. In total an older vehicle smog inspection tyically costs $20-30 more than a 2000 and newer vehicle. Also the fact that your vehicle is a pickup truck may attribute to a higher smog inspection price. Some smog stations choose to charge an additional fee for pickup trucks, both small and large, due to the additional strain these vehicles may place on the station's dynamometer.
