2004 Chevy Suburban - Smog check emission test passed, but functional test failed.

I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban that passed the visual inspection tes and Emmission test: ASM Emission Test Results 15MPH passed 25MPH Passed However, the function test failed with the following codes: P0332 Knock Sensor 2 Low Input P0496 Manufacturer specific code P0442 EVAP ctrl Systems Samll leak detected Whould these errors prevent me from registering my car under California DMV law?
Answer:

The trouble codes you've indicated will not let your Chevy Suburban pass California's smog check. You will be able to partially register your SUV in California pending a passing smog inspection. You'll need to have a smog check repair station diagnose your Suburban's fault codes P0332, P0496, and P0442, find the problems, make the repairs, and then your Chevy can pass the smog check and the smog certificate number be used to complete the registration process.

P0332 Knock Sensor low input sounds like a simple fix. This may mean a loose or damaged knock sensor connector, or in the sort case a defective sensor. A simple replacement may fix this fault.

P0442 EVAP system small leak can be a simple as a loose gas cap. We'd recommend filling a full tank of fuel and ensuring your gas cap is screwed on tight. If in fact the problem was a loose gas cap, this trouble code should disappear within a weeks worth of everyday driving.

P0496 is a manufacturer specific code pertaining to the EVAP system as well. Typically it indicates a fault with the EVAP high flow purge valve, however it may be triggered by a faulty gas cap as well. Try our recommendation of filling up and tightening your gas cap, if the code reappears you may need a smog check repair station to replace the EVAP solenoid.

Before getting a smog check after trying to fix trouble codes P0496 and P0442 yourself, we recommend having a smog check repair station extract your Chevy Suburban's trouble codes first in order to ensure the trouble codes were cleared.
