2003 Chevy S10 Brake Light Question

I have been told by 2 smog stations that my brake and ABS light being on will prevent me passing smog but when I google the question it says California doesn't consider brakes in a test so will pass it. Which is true? Registered in Concord, CA DMV.

Answer:

An illuminated "brake" light, whether it be the ABS or other, will not cause a smog check inspection failure unless the fault is related to the vehicle's Engine Control Module (or connection to) and a failure to communicate with the smog machine's OBD-II system exists. Please see the documentation provided by the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repairs by following the link below.
