2000 BMW 323 - I want to apply for CAP repair assistance.
I just found out about this program. I am income elligible. I need to have my car registered before February 24 of this year. I failed my smog check and have already had repairs done. More repairs are required in order for me to pass smog check. I am planning on getting the repairs done this weekend. Can I send my reciepts in for the work that was completed and be reimbursed if my application is approved? Thank you. Answer:
Unfortunately CAP will not reimburse for repairs already made to your BMW.
You can however (with the receipts of smog repairs performed at a certified
smog check repair station) have the Cap repair co-pay waived once your
application is approved. One week is not enough time to get CAP approval
(usually take 2-3 weeks) and your BMW repaired so we recommend visiting a
local DMV branch and getting a temporary registration tag. Explain to the
DMV agent your BMW is going through the CAP repair program and you should be
able to get a one month extension. You will have to pay your registration
fees in full, and there might be a fee to get a temporary tag as well.
