I have a 1982 GMC S15 pickup it had 4 cylinders in it with a smog pump. So does that mean if I put a Chevy 350 in it do I use the old smog stuff off the 4 cylinder or find a 350 that has the smog stuff on it? Answer:
You are correct. You'll need to find a new motor with all the emissions
parts which belong to it. After the swap is complete, your GMC S15 will have
to be inspected by a California State Referee. The Referee will ensure that
the job was done properly and that the new engine does not pollute. If all
is well they will issue you a BAR label which will be placed somewhere on
your vehicles chassis which will be an indication that the vehicle is California smog legal.
