vw 2002 jetta at 128000 miles replaced with used transmission now this one does not work right.

Put in used tranny with 33000 miles on it. This tranny does not work either. Company that put it in is bankrupt and can't fix it. Is very driveable, hard shifts at 35 MPH and makes a whiny noise other than that has great get up and go. Check engine light will not go out so how do I smog it? I would like to keep it for 1 more year to get my money out of the car that I spent on tranny.
Answer:

No choice here. What ever the problem is which is causing the check engine light to illuminate needs to be repaired. Your Jetta will fail the smog test with the check engine light on, even if it's due to the transmission. We can only recommend you visit another transmission shop and hope then can make a smaller repair then replacing the transmission, specifically to get the check engine light turned off.
