1993 Isuzu Rodeo S - Oxygen sensor warning light is on. Is it an automatic smog check failure?

1993 Isuzu Rodeo S, 4-cylinder--Oxygen sensor warning light on but sensor is OK, is this still an automatic smog check fail? We now only drive this vehicle about 4000 miles per year. The state requires we use a test-only center. The vehicles has always passed it's smog checks first try. This low-end vehicle has an oxygen sensor warning light that comes on every 90000 miles, regardless of how well the oxygen sensor is actually working. The light is now, but my mechanic says the sensor tests as working properly. Isuzu's written instructions for turning off the light require a ridiculous, expensive job of taking apart the instrument cluster and moving a piece of tape from one warning light to another. When I take this vehicle for it's next smog test, will it automatically fail just because the light is on? If I take a receipt from my mechanic showing a new oxygen sensor was installed, but the warning light is still on, will I automatically fail? Do I really need to pay my mechanic to take apart the instrument cluster just to reset this light?
Answer:

The oxygen sensor warning light will not cause a smog check failure. If you want to reset the warning light you may, but it is not required to pass the smog test.
