2003 Ford Explorer - Service Engine Light is ON. Will we qualify for CAP Smog Check Repair Assistance?

Hi my question is if I qualify for the consumer program to help me fix my car? The o/d and service engine lights came on and I want to know if we qualify?
Answer:

Yes, your vehicle should qualify for smog check repair assistance, however you must be of low-income status, and your vehicle should be requiring (and fail) a smog check inspection. Once it fails the smog check you may apply via the CAP Application and await a response from the state. Usually this take 2-3 weeks. Once you receive approval you can have your vehicle inspected by a CAP certified smog check station (also known as Gold Shield Centers). Do not spend money diagnosing or repair your Ford Explorer's smog check failure. The state will not pay you back. They will only pay the smog station directly for diagnosis/repairs they perform after your application has been accepted.
