2001 Cadillac Deville - What can I do to help my car pass the smog check?
I drive a 2001 Cadillac Deville and just moved to Merced, CA (San Joquin Valley). What can I do to reduce my cars emissions to ensure a passing smog test.
What can I do (i.e. add oil, supreme gas, etc) in order to ensure that I pass the smog test?
Is there a place in my area that is most lenient?
Will my model pass anyway? 2001 Cadillac DeVille DHS Answer:
Your vehicle can pass the smog check if it has been well maintained. Insure it does not smoke (except for a little condensation in the mornings), the check engine or MIL is not on, the vehicle is properly warmed up before the smog test, and most importantly, the exhaust doesn't have a strong fuel smell.
once you obtain a smog check, in the unfortunate case your Cadillac doesn't pass the test, the smog technician will give you a VIR (Vehicle Inspection report) which will give you a brief summary of why your it didn't pass. It will not give you a diagnosis (you'll need to have a smog check repair station diagnose the fault), but it will give you a basic idea of where the repair mechanic will have to begin to look.
