1978 Mazda Cosmo - Can I replace the Thermal Reactor with a Catalytic Converter?

I HAVE A 1978 MAZDA COSMO. IT HAS A ROTORY ENGINE WITH THREE THERMAL REACTORS INSTEAD OF A CAT CONVERTOR. DO YOU THINK BY REPLACING THE REACTORS WITH A CAT, IT WOULD PASS THE VISUAL AND SMOG CHECK? THE MAZDA COSMO HAS A ROTORY ENGINE WITH THREE THERMAL REACTORS INSTEAD OF A CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I CANNOT FIND THESE PARTS. CAN I REPLACE THE THERMAL REACTORS WITH A CAT AND PASS SMOG CHECK?
Answer:

Replacing the Thermal Reactor with a CAT will be considered an emissions tamper, and will cause your rotary engine Mazda to fail the smog check. If you're having trouble finding the parts you need consider contacting the Smog Check Referee's Office for assistance finding a new Thermal Reactor or possibly obtaining a one-time smog check waiver.
