Saturn SL1 - Maximum Required to Spend on Smog Repairs
My Saturn SL1 failed the smog test big-time. I've already spent money on smog repairs designed to make it pass the test, but while the re-test was much better, the results still slightly exceeded some of the maximums. My question is: Is there a limit on what I'm required to spend to pass the smog test and, if so, what is that limit? Answer:
You should look into the California Vehicle Repair Assistance Program.
If you are eligible, the program will pay up to $500.00 in repairs to a CAP certified station in order to get your Saturn to pass the smog test. If after the money spent still doesn't get your car to pass the smog check, you may be issued a one-time 2 year smog check waiver.
If you are not eligible for the program, you will be required to cover the costs of repairing the vehicle yourself until it passes to test. You will not be able to legally drive the vehicle if it does not have current and valid registration.
