Can I Get a Temporary Permit for at Least a Few Weeks So I Can Get it Fixed?

My car failed the smog test. I need to know if I can get a temporary permit for at least a few weeks so I can get the problem fixed. I don't want to get caught driving without tags. Thanks.

Answer:

Yes, you may purchase a temporary registration tag from the DMV for $50.00 or for free if you've been accepted into the Consumer Assistance Program for smog check repair. The temporary registration sticker (which is actually a pink 4 x 5 document) will allow you to drive your vehicle legally on public roadways for up to 30 days.
